Think you can't get Broadband? Take another look
PlusNet welcomes increased Broadband availability
PlusNet welcomes today's commitment from BT to make broadband available to up to a million more homes and businesses throughout the UK. This great news means that those who have previously tried to get Broadband and been unsuccessful, should now be able to enjoy the benefits of high-speed Internet.
BT estimates that 99.8% of lines connected to a Broadband-enabled exchange should now be able to get a 512k service. What's more, the advantages of even higher-performance 1Mb services become available to 96% of people within reach of a broadband enabled exchange.
Today's news follows the successful completion of extended reach trials in Milton Keynes and two rural areas of Scotland, Fort William and Dingwall. PlusNet has worked closely with BT during these trials which ran throughout the summer.
Until now, whether or not you could get Broadband depended upon how close you were to an enabled exchange. From 6th September this is set to change with the doors being thrown open to all.
"Today's announcement means that from 6th September, 512k Broadband now becomes available to almost everyone in the UK. Those who have previously tried to get Broadband and been unsuccessful will now be able to enjoy the benefits of high-speed Internet," said Marco Potesta, Marketing Director of PlusNet. "In addition to that, all customers who can already get 512k Broadband have the even higher 1Mb speed option made available to them. There is great demand for the higher speed services and this is nothing but good news for our customers."
The experience gained from the trials has made it possible for BT to accommodate higher noise levels on a telephone line; the upper limits being increased to 75db for a 512kbps service and 60db for 1Mbps. During the trials this summer, these new limits allowed Broadband service to be provided to the majority of applicants straight away, with many working after an engineer's visit, and with only a small number being unable to receive the service.
"BT's new service activation process is to be commended. The commitment to a free-of-charge engineer's visit, where replacement of the customer's faceplate and data cable may be required, will mean that many more customers will be able to benefit from the many advantages that high-speed Internet access brings," said Potesta.
With PlusNet you get much more than just a great Broadband connection. A wealth of added-value services are provided as standard, such as unlimited email addresses, anti-virus and spam-protection, website hosting and local-rate dial access backup.
