Binatone ADSL 500 USB modem - Mac set up guide

This guide applies to Binatone ADSL 500 USB Modems ordered from January 2004 onwards. If you ordered your USB Starter Pack before this date, please select the correct guide from the ADSL Starter Pack - Setup Guides page.

Get your new modem installed quickly and easily. This guide is provided for Apple Macintosh OS9 and OSX. Earlier versions of the operating system do not support the Binatone ADSL 500 USB Modem.

Installing the Mac OSX Driver

1 Insert the Driver CD and open the 'MAC' folder

2 Copy the 'Release.sit' file onto the desktop. Double-click it.

3 A 'Release' folder will be created on the desktop. Double-click it.

4 Double-click on the 'Install_USB_ADSL.pkg' icon. The install programme should start.

5 Click Continue, choose a destination to install and click Continue again.

6 Click Install to begin installing the modem driver. Click Continue Installation when informed that your Mac will restart when the installation is done.

7 Click Restart when Installation is finished, plug in the modem.

8 When restarted, click on the 'Apple' icon and select System Preferences.

9 From the System Preferences icons, select Network.

10 On the Network screen, select Ethernet Adaptor (en1) then select Configure as Using DHCP. Now click Apply.

11 Open a web browser, type http://192.168.1.2 on the address line, then click Return.

12 On the Binatone webpage select 'UK' from the list of countries, then click Next.

13 Check that the following values are shown as your Login Settings.

Protocol: PPPoA VC-Mux
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
ADSL Handshake Protocol: Autosense - G.dmt first

Make sure that this information matches your on-screen settings, then click Next.

14 Enter your username and password into the boxes. Your broadband username supplied by email once your broadband account is active. You can check which username you should use, click on the portal website, click the My Connection link then click Connection Details.

15 Select which connection mode you want:

Manual Connect/Disconnect will mean that you must take action to connect or disconnect your broadband service.

Always On will set your modem to connect your broadband service whenever your computer is on.

16 Click Save Settings and wait while your modem settings are updated. Your modem will then be rebooted. Do not switch your Mac or modem off until this is complete.

17 You will now be presented with the Login Settings screen. Click Connect.

Congratulations, you have completed the installation and can now ready to enjoy the benefits of broadband Internet!

Uninstalling the Mac OSX Driver

1 To uninstall the Mac driver, please double-click 'Release.sit' icon on the desktop.

2 A 'Release' folder will be created on the desktop. Double-click it.

3 Double-click on the 'Uninstall' icon.

4 The uninstallation of the driver will start. Upon completion, restart your Mac.


Installation of Mac OS9 Driver

1 Insert the Driver CD and open the 'MAC' folder.

2 Copy the 'OS9 Package.sit' file onto the desktop. Double-click it.

3 A sub-folder named 'Install USB ADSL' will appear. Double-click it.

4 Double-click on the 'install' icon. The installation of the driver will start. Upon completion, click Restart and Plug in the modem.

5 Click on 'Control Panels' then 'TCP/IP', change the 'Connect via' option to 'USB ADSL'

6 On the same screen confirm that 'Configure' is set to 'Using DHCP Server'.

7 Open a Web broswer, type http://192.168.1.2 on the address line, then click Return.

8 On the Binatone webpage select 'UK' from the list of countries, then click Next

9 Check that the following values are shown as your Login Settings:

Protocol: PPPoA VC-Mux
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
