Please follow the checklist below to confirm that your system is set up correctly:
- Make sure that your adapter is installed correctly. If you bought your adapter from PlusNet you can find out more about this in the wireless adapter set up guides.
BT Voyager 1060/5 Laptop Adapter
BT Voyager 1040 PCI Adapter
- If you're using WPA/WEP security, check that you're using the correct network key information. Remember that the network name and network key are case sensitive. Also check that you have the same settings on all computers on the network.
- Check that you are connected to the device that you want to communicate with. You can find out more about this in the instructions that come with your hardware.
If you are able to connect but data transfer is sometimes slow, this could be because of nearby microwave ovens and cordless phones. You should keep computers at least 20 feet away from your microwave oven and also any cordless phones that operate at a frequency of 2.4Ghz. If your data transfer is always slow, this could be because of the structure of your building. Try moving to different rooms and see if this improves your speeds.
Connecting to the Internet
These guidelines can help if you are trying to connect to the Internet using a wireless router:
Ensure that you have installed your wireless adapter correctly. Check the instructions that came with your adapter for more details on how to do this. If you bought your hardware from PlusNet you can find instructions in our dedicated set up guides:

BT Voyager 1040 PCI Adapter
Make sure that your router is installed correctly and that it is connected to the Internet. If you bought your router from PlusNet you can find more information in our dedicated set up guide.
Check that you are using the correct username and password. This should be your regular PlusNet username and password.
If you are trying to connect to the Internet through another computer, check our guide to Internet connection sharing.
Sharing files between computers
- Check that file sharing is installed and enabled.
- Make sure that the IP address and subnet mask are compatible. In Windows you can find out the IP address and subnet mask by clicking Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network then highlight TCP/IP and click Properties. The IP addresses of your computers should be similar (only the final set of digits should differ) and the subnet mask should be the same on both computers.
