- Broadband is described as 'up to 8Mb' because download speeds will vary depending on your telephone line and location.
- Actual download speeds can reach a maximum of 7Mb, with an average speed of 5-6Mb. BT Wholesale estimates that 78% of customers will achieve download speeds of 4Mb and above.
- It is likely that speeds no greater than 2Mb will be achieved at peak usage times due to contention in our network and our suppliers' networks.
- Download speeds will vary significantly in the first 10 days after connection and then will become more consistent.

Broadband Premier is designed to cater for some peer-to-peer, binary Usenet, FTP or other intensive usage, but you will see slow downs on these applications at peak-times, especially as you approach your usage allowance. Try and shift this type of usage to off peak-times to get faster speeds.

You can continue to use your connection even when you reach your usage allowance, but certain applications will be blocked at peak-times. Find out more about traffic management.

For every year you stay with Free-Online we'll guarantee that the cancellation cost decreases. What does this mean? If you cancel within the first year, then you will pay £47 for the activation. For every year you stay we'll reduce this by £9.40. If you also choose to take a modem as part of the offer there will be an additional cancellation fee of £25 in the first year and this will reduce by £5 for each year that you stay.

You can choose an annual or monthly contract when you choose broadband.
